Defense Veterans Youth Patriotism

Fellow Legionnaires,

Well, we had a great turnout for OUR 90th American Legion Birthday! Miss Betty and the Kitchen Crew put together another super meal with ham, beans, potato salad, sweet potato pie and our birthday cake; a great meal with decorations and all--thank you, ma’am! As you know, the Department of Georgia had the Spring Conference at Lake Lanier this year. We were able to attend several of the meetings and our officers will report to the membership at the next meeting. Also, I found after the fact, that I should have appointed the Nominating Committee for the upcoming year’s election of officers. If you have a nomination for the positions of Post Commander, Senior Vice Commander, Junior Vice Commander or Finance Officer, please contact Walter Wacter (242-0668), Rolland Wallis (253-9561) or Willie Bethay (247-7856). They will collect the nominations and report to us at the next meeting. An issue which has come up in the last few weeks is the position our National Commander has taken concerning the Obama administration's idea for the VA to bill our private insurance companies for service connected health care. After public opposition, Mr. Obama has withdrawn plans to get back money spent on service connected veterans care. Our Post hosted the 12th District meeting on 22 March. The Post Executive Board will meet on 20 April at 5 pm. Please call the Post for any change to the meeting. All members are welcome. As always, from the Post Executive Committee and I, thank you for your continued support.

"For God and Country,"  Ed Kent
