Defense Veterans Youth Patriotism

Fellow Legionnaires,

Veterans Day was once again a GREAT SUCCESS. Thanks to Whit Chappell, President of the Lowndes County Veterans Council and our own Post Committee, Chairman April Welter, Phil Youngblood, Rap Brown, Ernie Florig and Claus Von Zittwitz. Also, many thanks to the host of volunteers and other kitchen help that came in to help with the "shredding" of the meat. April told me that there were so many that wanted to help that she had to stop accepting vounteers. The vounteers were bumping into each other in the kitchen. We had LTC Donald Wolfe, Commander of the Southern Recruiting Battalion, Jacksonville, Florida as guest speaker. He brought the U.S. Army NASCAR. It was parked in front of Bazemore-Hyder Stadium which is across the street from the post. What a car. We had pictures taken in front in front of the trailer which is just as impressive as the car. We have one of our own, SFC Michael T. Wiggins, Sr., to thank for all the coordination and planning that went into having LTC Wolfe and the car. Contray to some opinions we DID NOT run out of food. Everyone going through the line the FIRST time got a plate of food. Those coming back for seconds might not have had the full compliment. The food was excellent. We made the decision not to have a meeting in December. I had originally wanted a meeting only because of voting on the Post Constitution and Bylaws. I cancelled the meeting after learning that we could not vote at the December meeting. Please don't forget the Christmas Party on December 12, 2009. The social hour starts at 6:00 p.m. with H' ourdurves and dinner will be served at 7:00 p.m. We will be giving out door prizes. My wife, Penne, has donated a "filled" Longaberger Basket for a door prize. The gasoline, raffle will be held at the Christmas Party. There are still a lot of tickets to sell. At $3.00 each for 500 gallons of gasoline, you can't beat it. It is also heartwarming to give to give to local charities. If every member sold just 2 tickets, we would have them all sold by now. We still have two weeks to go, so let's getem' sold. As i have said many times in the past, let us know if you have any good ideas. Lastly, and AGAIN: Our goal is 1,300 FOR POST-13. We are still short, and we have many that haven't paid their dues yet. Let's get out there and remind those AND beat the bushed for new members. With over 18,700 veterans in our area, surely, we can get another 700 members! Our next Post Executive Board will meet at 5:00 p.m., Monday, December 21, 2009 unless there is a change. Please call the Post for any change to the meeting. All members are welcome. As always, from the Post Executive Committee and I, thank you for your continued support. WE WISH EVERYONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
