Fellow
Legionnaires,
I trust that everyone had a
Super Christmas and Happy New Year! Our
Christmas Party was a “Smash Hit”! Betty
Anderson and her Kitchen Crew did a fantastic
job…again. We had four turkeys and four hams
with all the fixing's. I think next year we’ll
have to get another turkey or two. We gave 20 -
fifteen dollar door prizes with the help of
three young ladies doing the ticket picking. I
was having such a good time; I almost gave the
table settings away! I think everyone had a
good time.
We have another big
event on 29 Jan 09, 6:30 pm. As I
mentioned in the last newsletter, National
Commander Dave Rehbein, will visit our
Post. Since seating will be limited at the
dinner, I urge you to buy your ticket early.
They’ll be available from Jimmy Traynor
at the Post Home on 13 Jan until 24 Jan.
Again, seating is limited and there’ll be the
standard entourage that will accompany him.
Cost is $6.00 per plate. This is the
first time a National Commander is visiting our
Post.
The next
membership meeting on 13 Jan, 7 pm, will be a NO
MEAL meeting. I’ll be addressing the audit
results and update you on the proposed cell
tower lease issue. As a reminder, the Post
Executive Committee will meet on 19 Jan at 5 pm.
All members are welcome.
As always, from the
Post Executive Committee and I, thank you for
your continued support. I look forward to
working with each member of this great Post in
the upcoming year!
Thanks again,
Thanks again, --"For God and Country," Ed
Kent

Operation Comfort Warriors
Although the DOD is providing the basic needs of our
troops recovering from war injuries, the Legion
family has stepped-up to provide comfort items for
our convalescing heroes. You can make an on-line
donation at www.legion.org/ocw, or mail a
check to Operation Comfort Warriors, PO Box 1055,
Indianapolis, IN 46206. The American Legion
will pay for all administrative and promotional
costs so that your entire donation will go directly
to our troops.

• Paid-Up-For-Life (PUFL) Membership Dues Payment
Plan
The American Legion has a payment plan for members to make
a one-time payment of dues for future years. For
example, if you are age 65 your PUFL dues will be
$352. You may pay this in one lump sum or make a
10% deposit and make 11 equal monthly payments. For
more information on this convenient payment plan, go
to the website www.legion.org/national/join/pufl

New VA Directive for Glasses and Hearing Aids
The new directive allows VA to provide glasses and
hearing aids to those who are not service connected
for those conditions (Priority Groups 6-8). In the
past, these were available only to those service
connected for the condition. These services are now
considered part of the preventative care package for
all veterans enrolled in the VA who meet certain
criteria. Veterans who are enrolled in the VA
health care system are eligible for battery
replacement and repair of hearing aids even though
those aids were purchased from a private source.
Even though glasses and hearing aids may be provided
at no charge, there may be a co-pay required for
those in group 6-8. Audiology is a specialty clinic
with a $50 dollar co-pay for some services. There is
no co-pay for the devices or the batteries. There
are no charges for visits for the purpose of
adjusting, repairing or modifying hearing aids.

Post Lounge operating hours are 4-8pm,
