Fellow
Legionnaires,
It really looks like June and July are
shaping up to be busy months! We conducted the
Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, 13 June
and were graced with the Daughters of the
American Revolution, General James Jackson
Chapter and young ladies from Girl Scout Troop
514 from Lakeland. The Daughters provided the
food and desert and the Post provided
refreshments. Each of our Post Officers was
assisted by a Girl Scout in conducting the
ceremony. It was a great sight to see these
young people interested in this respectful,
dignified ceremony. We hope they can be here
again for the next retirement ceremony. I would
be remiss if I didn’t fix something that I
completely missed in the last newsletter! I want
to thank Steve Priest, Shawn Harrell and
Alphonso Stoney for the Great Support they gave
us on Memorial Day. These three guys made sure
the cemetery was clean, mowed and the Flags were
at half staff, not to mention set-up of the area
at the Flag Pole. Thanks again, Super Job! The
Post will participate in the Annual 4th of July
Run sponsored by Get Active again this year. The
proceeds from the run go to the Lowndes County
Veterans Council for Veterans Assistance. We’ve
given assistance to many of our fellow veterans
for help with medicine, power and some towards
relocation help. A very worthwhile effort and
one that helps us help our friends and
neighbors. After the run on Saturday, the Post
will provide hotdogs and refreshments. If you
can’t make the run, then certainly stop by the
Post and get a hot dog and coke! The 91st
Department of Georgia Convention took place in
Duluth this year. Our new Department Commander
is Henry “Butch” Adams and our new National
Executive Committeeman is Charlie Wessinger with
Charlie French as the Alternate NEC man. A first
for Post 13 in recorded memory: April Welter,
our Post Historian, won First Place with her
Post History Book! She worked long and hard to
get the book where it is. If you see her, stop
her and tell her congratulations. Great Job,
April! I asked for volunteers to sit on the
Constitution and By-Laws Committee. I now have 4
volunteers. I will be giving my guidance to the
committee right after the next General
Membership meeting. If you have any concerns or
comments about our Constitution or By-Laws,
please let me or the committee know. Once
they’re finished with their recommendations,
I’ll present it to the Post for ratification.
Remember, the Post Executive Board will meet on
20 Jul at 1700 hours unless there’s a change.
Please call the Post for any change to the
meeting. All members are welcome. As always,
from the Post Executive Committee and I, thank
you for your continued support.
"For God and Country," Ed
