Fellow
Legionnaires,
It’s that time of year again when we elect
Post Officers for 2009 – 2010. The Nomination
Committee made their recommendations at the 14
April meeting and nominations from the floor
were taken. I want to remind everyone that we
will vote at the next meeting on 12 May. Have
your 2009 Membership Card ready and in hand or
you’ll have to be verified by the Post Adjutant
before receiving a voting paper ballot. It is
important that each of us give a great deal of
thought and consideration in who we want serving
as our elected officers for the coming year.
Each candidate should have at a minimum, the
experience and desire to do the job. Even though
these are voluntary positions, they should be
able and willing to put the time in to do the
job. This includes attending post, district, and
department meetings and gravesite services.
Lastly, and probably most importantly, they
should have the Post’s best interest at heart.
If they don’t want the “Betterment of the
Legion” as Job #1, and are Self-Serving or
disloyal to Post 13, then they don’t need to be
in a leadership position of this Post at any
capacity. That goes for ME as well. All I ask
you to do is search your heart and pick the best
person for the job. It’s critical for our Post
and its survival. Everyone should plan to
attend. This will also be an eating night and
according to Miss Betty, we may be looking at
having pizza. As you know, Memorial Day is fast
approaching and we’ll need volunteers to fall
out to place flags on our fallen comrades'
graves. If you can come out to Sunset Hills
Cemetery at 0800 on 24 May, we would surely
appreciate it. On 25 May, we’ll start the
Memorial Day Ceremony at 1000. Last year we had
almost 150 people attend. We’d love to have you
there! Lastly, the Post Executive Board will
meet on 18 May at 1700 hours. Please call the
Post for any change to the meeting. All members
are welcome. As always, from the Post Executive
Committee and I, thank you for your continued
support.
"For God and Country," Ed
Kent
