Defense Veterans Youth Patriotism

Fellow Legionnaires,

You know, one of the things I like about our Kitchen Crew, besides the fact that they put on a great meal, is their layout. The theme this past meeting was the Fall with all the trappin’s of autumn colors. Another super meal and “ambiance”. Even though we had about half of our normal attendance (most likely due to the fact that Lowndes won), we still were able to get business accomplished with our Legion Riders New Constitution and Bylaws. I want to thank each of the Riders present for showing support for the Post and answering any questions. I also want to particularly thank Member Denzel Griffin for his astute question about the Riders’ insurance. This is the type of dialogue we need to stay out of trouble. Some upcoming events to keep in mind are the approval of the Post Constitution and Bylaws, the Veterans Day Ceremony at Cleveland Field and the Christmas Party (and 500 gallon gas raffle). The raffle tickets are going fast! Please contact Rap Brown, Bill Lentz or Jimmy Traynor for tickets. They are $3.00 each and are almost self-sellers. A note for our Vietnam Veterans: The Veterans Administration just added three more disabilities to the Agent Orange list, “hairy-cell” Leukemia, Ischemic Heart Disease and Parkinson’s Disease. If you know of any widows or veterans that have any of these diseases or died from any of them, please have them go to the local Veterans Administration Office to see Joyce Boyd or myself. They may contact us at (229) 333-2178 or (229) 333-2179. We had a good conference in We will brief the membership on the conference at our December meeting. Don’t forget, we’ll be voting on our Post Constitution and Bylaws at our December meeting. As I’ve said many times in the past, if you have any good ideas, let us know! Lastly and AGAIN: Our goal is 1300 for Post-13. We still short, and we have many that have not paid their dues yet. Let’s get out there and remind those AND beat the bushes for new members. With over 18,700 veterans in our area, surely we can get another 700 members. Our next Post Executive Board meeting will be at 1700 hours, 16 November 2009 unless there’s a change. Please call the Post for any change to the meeting. All members are welcome. As always, from the Post Executive Committee and I, thank you for your continued support. Thanks Again
