Defense Veterans Youth Patriotism

Fellow Legionnaires,

What a great time we had at our meeting on Tuesday night (12 Jan)! Although we didn't eat, we still had a super dialog and discussed some financial issues as well as upcoming events. Then all 29 of us decided and approved the new Constitution and By-Laws for Post 13. I think Finance Officer RAP Brown ran the numbers and this was a total of .04% that represented the entirety of Post 13's 677 members! If you don't like how the rules and regulations turned out, maybe you'll make it next year or when they're reviewed again. I greatly appreciate everyone who DID participate. I feel we had a good, meaningful discussion, but I apologize for the lateness of our adjournment. It really shouldn't have taken almost an hour and a half. Had I known we were having so many Legionnaires' present, I'd have gone to Domino's and bought Pizza myself. I want to personally thank the Constitution and By-Laws Committe; Dan McSwords, April Welter, Erine Florig, Phil Youngblood and Bill Lentz for their hard work and several nights making very necessary changes to the documents. One of the new positions approved by the membership is a Junior Vice Commander for Activities. If you are interested in serving in this position, please contact me of one of the Executive Board Members. I will appoint the first Jr. Vice, but in May, the Post membership will make the election. This will be an important postion and we need to have it filled soon. I also want to thank LT. Jo Ann Rulfowitz for agreeing to fill the position of Assistant Sergeant At Arms to help Sergeant-At-Arms Jimmy Traynor and Zakkiyyah "ZEE" Q. Osuigwe for accepting the Assistant Adjutant position. She will give Billy Wiggins a badly needed breather! For next month, we'll be conducting the Post Everlasting Ceremony. The Honor Guard will be working hard practicing again for this very important event. I urge everyone to attend. Remember, we're honoring our own that have past from this world to the next. In closing, I would ask for everyone to take another look what's important. If you feel like our organization is important enough to be a member, then surely it's important enough to attend and participate in the meetings, even when we don't feed you. One of the reasons for not having a Post "provided" meal this time was we over spent our budget with the Christmas Dinner. We planned for 175, paid for 175 and had 102 show up. We got a super deal from "Andy" Anderson, but we gave away 73 plates! Not a very fiscally sound event. Be sure to mark your calendar for 9 Feb, the next membership meeting. For our meal, we're going to do something a little different. We're asking for everyone to bring a covered dish to the meeting. The Ladies will provide the dessert and the Post will provide the Tea / Water / Coffee. Our next Post Executive Board will meet on 15 Feb at 1700 hours unless there's a change. Please call the Post for any change to the meeting. All members are welcome. As always, from the Post Executive Committee and I, thank you for your continued support.

Thanks again,

"For God and Country,"  Ed Kent
